ISLAMABAD, April 14 (APP): Portrayal of women in media: a controversy is a discourse on the gender biasness of media in portraying women image.

Dr Riffat Haque, Director of Women and Gender Studies Programme of Allama Iqbal Open University, said that media has emphasized more on female anchorpersons and it gives impression that only young faces are in demand whereas there should be mix of male and female anchorpersons and even aging anchors should be given equal opportunities.
Dr Riffat while criticising the Pakistani media content said that media outlets were screening women who are victims, getting betrayed and being treated worst, which is affecting young minds in the society.
Maria Mustafa Malik, a psychologist and educationist said media portrays woman in three conventional roles i.e. models, nurturers and victims. These images depict that women are either heroine or vamp.
Dr Saqib Riaz, Associate Professor and Media Expert said that a positive change has come in Pakistani media however it should not ignore cultural norms and values of our society.
