Our work on resilience and humanitarian response involves a range of activities including research, capacity building, the development of media outputs and communication materials, and outreach. Combined, these activities aim to influence the populations, practitioners, organisations and systems which – working together – can positively influence long-term change.


The Senior Adviser, Economic Security and Opportunities leads on work within the focus area of “Economic Security and Opportunity” as part of a wider approach to Resilience by guiding internal policy, establishing  organisational learning, supporting the development and implementation of projects and representing BBC Media Action externally.

Key Accountabilities

 The role has influence across the whole organisation (700+ staff). The post will involve external engagement including with a range of development, policy and research actors.  Key accountabilities include:

  • Leading on development of internal strategies, theories of change and policies on economic security and opportunity as part of a wider approach to resilience, ensuring appropriate organisational engagement.
  • Engaging with other teams – particularly Country Programmes, Research and Learning and Communications – to improve the quality of organisation-wide thinking and project delivery.
  • Supporting organisational learning in economic security & opportunity, including through the provision of face-to-face support and training. Support inter-country cooperation and document organisational experience and learning.
  • Working intensively on development of specific projects – including supporting the development of donor proposals as agreed under the leadership of the relevant Country Director.
  • Acting as principal focus point on proposal development that is pan-organisational in nature, or which cuts across different regions, or when proposal development is not easily amenable to management at country or regional level.
  • Representing BBC Media Action externally on Economic Security – including at high-level meetings and public presentations – bringing learning back into the organisation and sharing BBC Media Action experiences within the sector.
  • Forging relationships with major external partners, stakeholders and funding bodies, acting as the focal point for the maintenance of these relationships.
  • Producing relevant thought-pieces, articles and policy papers.



  • Extensive experience of working with media and communication to improve economic security and opportunity, including in development contexts
  • Strong experience of proposal development and building donor relationships.
  • Capacity to exercise intellectual leadership on economic security and opportunity for international development including income and asset building, micro and small enterprise development, microfinance and cooperatives.
  • Extensive contacts and network within the field of economic security and opportunity.
  • Strong understanding of international development systems.
  • Capacity to understand and engage with relevant external research and policy agendas and a capacity to link these creatively to the programming and thinking of BBC Media Action.
  • Sound editorial judgement.
  • Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with a capacity to engage with diverse internal and external stakeholders and an instinct/aptitude for creating connections across teams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present to large audiences.
  • Understanding of and experience working with monitoring and evaluation frameworks and tools.


  • A post-graduate qualification in international development, economy or finance, related topics, and/or media and communications is essential.

Dawn News paper is looking for a sub- editor, who can work till late night. Workers will have to work from 8:00 pm to 4:00 am. Facilities of pick and drop will be provided, but the workers will not be allowed to do work from their home.

Dawn_NewsWorkers have to keep eyes on the news of different sources and will have to publish them on line in given time with good editing, including social media updates and comments. Candidates will be appointed on merit and they will have to appear in test.
